Industrial Worker Awarded $9.6 Million due to Industrial Chemical Accident

Jason Jenkins, an industrial worker for Occidental Petroleum Corp., was awarded $9.6 million by a jury after incurring a serious eye injury after being doused in the face with acid by a machine while working.

Jenkins lost a majority of his vision in one eye and claimed Occidental's system lacked a pressure indicator which failed to properly vent pressure and prevent industrial worker injury, according to Yahoo Finance.

This isn't the first time Occidental Petroleum Corp. was involved in serious litigation. The company settled a lawsuit in connection with a ruptured gas pipeline that injured several workers in February of 2007. They also settled a lawsuit for $1.6 million in connection to pollution in the Tacoma Commencement Bay, according to Law360.
