Jim attended the University of Virginia where he received his bachelor’s degree, with distinction, and went on to receive his law degree from the College of William and Mary. He teaches Trial Advocacy in the evenings as an Adjunct Professor at William and Mary law school. 

Jim is licensed to practice law in Virginia and North Carolina and regularly tries cases in state and federal courts. Jim has been made a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, has lectured to doctors and lawyers regarding injury law, and is an active member of the AAJ & VTLA.

• Jim and Randy Appleton successfully secured a $21 million guaranteed structured settlement, with a present value of $5.5 million in 2012 for a youngchild and her parents, after she suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident caused by a truck driver who smashed in to the family’s car.
• Jim secured a $2.3 Million jury verdict for a child who suffered a life-altering shoulder injury while the mother was giving birth. Jim took this case to trial and the jury determined that the nurse-midwife was negligent in her care of the mother during the birthing process.
