64-Year-Old Man Killed in Train Accident | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

While there have not been any recently reported railroad injuries in Virginia or North Carolina, the relative of a Virginia Beach, VA, native was injured recently in a train accident in Oklahoma. On May 17, 2011, a 64-year-old man was hit by a northbound train in Norman, OK, and died at the scene. This train accident is still under investigation. We send out our prayers to the family of this victim.

This is an unusual case because, more often than not, a car, van, or pickup truck is involved in a train crash that leads to a rail injury or death. In this case, the victim was on foot and may have been unaware of the oncoming train. It will be interesting to see what the police uncover in their investigation concerning the train accident. For example, did the train fail to sound its horn? If the police to turn up evidence that this was a wrongful death, we hope that the family seeks justice against the railroad company.

We have experience in dealing with railroad companies concerning wrongful death and injuries. In a recent case, we were able to see that a man’s family was awarded $5 million dollars for being exposed to asbestos during the years he worked for the railroad company.
