A short walk to the store turns deadly for Waynesboro, VA woman | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A family is mourning tonight after a short walk to the store turned deadly for one of their own.  A Waynesboro, VA woman was struck by a hit-and-run driver while she was walking to the store for a soda.  She was not very far from her home when the accident happened.   It occurred shortly after 8pm on Stuarts Draft Highway at the intersection with Grandview Drive.  Police are still looking for the driver of the car that hit her.

Our thoughts go out to the family of the victim at this difficult time.  It is hard to imagine what would cause someone to hit a pedestrian while driving down the road.  They may have been distracted or simply not paying attention.  Perhaps they were driving recklessly.  Whatever the reason, they were careless and a life was lost.  What is impossible to understand is how they could drive away and leave the victim lying in the middle of the road.

As experienced Virginia wrongful death lawyers, it is so frustrating for us to see stories like this.  We have seen too many people suffer serious personal injury, or worse, as a result of someone else’s carelessness or negligence.  Too often, when these accidents involve pedestrians, a family is left grieving.  People need to be more accountable when they get behind the wheel.  Hopefully, authorities will locate the at-fault driver in this case.

Dealing with filing a wrongful death claim while mourning the loss of a loved one often seems like a daunting task and it may be the last thing on the minds of those left to pick up the pieces.  When it does cross their mind, they may have a million questions.  This free report written by a Virginia wrongful death attorney may help to answer some of those questions.
