Reckless Driving Charges for Jacqueline Mars in Fatal Car Wreck

Jacqueline Badger Mars, the owner of Mars Inc. (a company based in McLean, Virginia) is facing reckless driving misdemeanor charges after being involved in a fatal car wreck.

Mrs. Mars was reportedly driving a Porsche SUV in Aldie, Virginia (VA) when her vehicle crossed the center line and slammed into a minivan, according to The Virginian Pilot. A passenger in the minivan, Irene Ellisor, died at the scene.

Our deepest condolences go out to the Ellisor family. Losing a loved one is always difficult, but the pain is that much worse when the loss is sudden and unexpected.

This tragic accident is a prime example that a moment of negligence can be caused by people in all stations of life – wealthy, middle class, or lower income. Just because Mrs. Mars is the owner of a major corporation does not mean she can escape the simple fact that her reckless driving resulted in the death of an innocent passenger in another vehicle. It is likely that Mrs. Mars’ insurance carrier will defend her. We cannot say for sure, but it is likely that she has sufficient insurance coverage (including an umbrella policy) to pay for the damages that resulted from this terrible crash. The Ellisor family may have grounds to file a wrongful death claim. The types of damages available to family members and spouses in a wrongful death case are set by statute in Virginia.
