Van Strickes Ambulance, Injuring Members of Kempsville Volunteer Rescue Squad | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

An ambulance was hit by a van in early July and members of the Kempsville Volunteer Squad were sent to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.  The ambulance, responding to a call, was struck by the van passing through a red light at Lynnhaven Parkway and Rosemont Road. According to police, the van driver was charged with failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.

A new law has been put in place that states “emergency vehicles must use lights and sirens OR come to a complete stop before going through a red light or stop sign.”  There is no clear indication in the initial newspaper report by the Virginian-Pilot that the ambulance had come to a complete stop before passing through the light or used its lights and other warnings.  However, the Virginia Beach’s rescue squad’s staff is very well trained.  If the van driver did run a red light, then the injuries are the responsibilities of that driver.

As a Virginia Beach, Virginia (VA) personal injury lawyer, I deal with many car accident cases where drivers are injured due to other driver’s negligence. If you, or someone you know has recently has been hurt in a car wreck that wasn’t their fault, have them contact our injury law firm.
