Amtrak Workers Encouraged to Confidentially Report ‘Close Call’ Accidents | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

In his latest post to our firm’s Railroad Accident/FELA Lawyers Blog, my colleague Randy Appleton reports that Amtrak has begun participating in a Federal Railroad Administration pilot program aimed at identifying potentially deadly problems and resolving those problems before any rail employees, train passengers or drivers or pedestrians suffer injuries. The Confidential Close Call Reporting System, or C3RS, also counts Canadian Pacific Railway, Union Pacific Railroad and New Jersey Transit as participants. The FRA is looking to implement the program across the entire railroad industry if data show that close call reporting lowers accident rates.
