Chesapeake Personal Injury Lawyer Info: Motorcyclist Dies in Accident in Russell County, VA | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Virginia (VA), along with the rest of the nation, has been experiencing an increase in the number of deadly motorcycle accidents. In fact, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration found that the number of motorcycle fatalities nearly doubled between 1997 and 2005. The smaller size of a motorcycle and increased area of rider exposure puts a motorcyclist in a very precarious situation when confronted with a possibly negligent driver.

A recent example of such a terrible accident occurred on October 15 in Russell County, VA. WCYB.com reported that members of a Christian motorcycle club were riding down Highway 71 when a dump truck crossed the center line and hit and many of the motorcyclists. One rider was killed in the accident, and several more were injured and taken to local hospitals.

Our thoughts are with the friends and families of those injured and killed in the accident. Losing a loved one is one of the most difficult experiences anyone can go through, but dealing with that loss is especially challenging when a person was killed in a preventable accident.
