Pedestrian hit and injured on Bainbridge Blvd. in Chesapeake, VA

As the news report from WAVY-TV 10 above shows, the stretch of road where the collision occurred is not marked with crosswalks but is closely bordered by homes and businesses. The accident scene is an area where drivers should often expect to encounter people on foot along the shoulder and in the path of traffic.

The Chesapeake pedestrian accident comes within two days of a similar crash in Newport News, VA, in which a man walking in a traffic lane on Jakes Lane was struck by a pickup truck. The victim of that wreck also remains in the hospital.

As a Virginia personal injury attorney who has helped many people injured while crossing streets, I know that drivers must constantly be on watch for people on foot in residential and retail areas. When anyone behind the wheel of a vehicle strikes a pedestrian, the results can be tragic.
