Child Killed, Three Injured in Illegal Drag Race on I-77 | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What Happened:

While two cars were illegally drag racing on Interstate 77 in Charlotte, North Carolina, one of the cars lost control, smashed into another car and then slammed into a guard rail. A two year-old boy died in the wreck. Also injured was the driver, who was the father of the boy, the mother, and another passenger of the other car.

North Carolina state police have stated that both drivers had been drinking. Both drivers could be charged with second degree murder. Other DUI offenders have been so charged in recent years

The North Carolina Injury Lawyer’s Perspective:

We are saddened and outraged that the parents appeared to have caused the death of their own child.  The other passenger who was injured in this senseless accident should speak to a North Carolina personal injury lawyer. He or she could be entitled to financial compensation in a civil lawsuit against both drivers. Even if both drivers are charged with 2nd degree murder, any injured passenger could still file a civil claim seeking financial restitution, regardless of the outcome of the criminal trial.
