Drifting Pickup Truck Driver Causes Fatal Accident in Suffolk | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A pickup truck driver traveling down Whaleyville Road in Suffolk, Virginia (VA) drifted into the opposite lane and hit a Nissan Maxima. The driver of the Maxima was killed. Two children and one other adult were seriously injured, according to The Virginian Pilot.

Cars and trucks suddenly drifting into the opposite lane of traffic is a serious safety issue in Hampton Roads and throughout VA. In many instances, the at-fault driver is drowsy or distracted in some way. We don’t know what exactly caused the pickup truck driver in this tragic accident to drift over into the opposite lane. We’ll have to wait and see what the accident report reveals.

My deepest condolences go out to the family of the victim. Not only is it heartbreaking to learn about the loss of a loved one, but it must be infuriating to know that they were killed in a preventable accident through no fault of their own.

This truck-car accident highlights just how important it is to remain vigilant when you’re behind the wheel of a car, truck, SUV, or any other vehicle. Even a momentary lapse in judgment can lead to a major accident that leads to serious injuries and a loss of life.
