Driver Charged in I-64 School Bus Crash | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A crash that sent 12 people to the hospital – 11 of them middle school aged children – resulted in a tractor trailer driver facing criminal charges. The students were on a school bus headed to the Math Science Innovation Center when a tractor trailer following too closely crashed into the school bus.

The result was a chain reaction accident including a CareVan which, fortunately, had no passengers. Another driver was sent to the VCU Medical Center as well, according to NBC12.

This accident illustrates the importance of tractor trailer and big rig drivers operating their large vehicles with caution and due care. Unfortunately, the truck driver in this wreck failed to do so and multiple children suffered injuries as a result.

Our firm understands just how devastating tractor trailer accidents can be. For example, we handled a case involving a big rig crash on I-64 in Norfolk, VA that led to our client getting burned alive. When we took the case, we recognized the severity of the wreck and were able to secure a $3.5 million settlement for the only surviving child of our client.
