Driver Charged with Reckless Driving, Two Victims Sent to Hospital on I-64 in Clifton Forge | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What happened:

A driver in a 1997 Chevy Monte Carlo was in the eastbound lane of Interstate 64, near the Clifton Forge exit to Dabney S. Lancaster Community College. The 60 year old driver drove the Monte Carlo into the lane to his left, slamming into a 2007 Chevy Malibu. That impact caused the 2007 Malibu, being driven by a 38 year old Covington woman, to hit a guide wire located on the left side of the road, leaving the vehicle blocking the left lane. The Malibu was then rear-ended by a 2008 Chevy Malibu, being driven by a 22 year old woman also from Covington.

WSLS reported that both women were transported to Alleghany Regional Hospital. The driver of the Monte Carlo, who lives in Glasgow, W.V.,was charged with reckless driving.

The Virginia Injury Lawyer Perspective:

The driver in this accident was cited for reckless driving. His fault seems clear that by crossing into another lane and hitting the first victim’s car, causing her vehicle to block the lane and the second victim’s car to crash. Besides criminal liability for the accident, he may also be legally liable for pain and suffering these two women have had to endure. They should contact a Virginia personal injury attorney to find out what kind of compensation they may be entitled to.
