Driver who Fled Fatal Olney, MD Car Crash Gets 20-year Prison Sentence

Three Olney, Maryland (MD), teenagers are dead because of the careless actions of a driver who got behind the wheel after drinking heavily. Even though nothing can be done to bring the children back, some semblance of justice was served when the hit-and-run driver was, according to the Washington Post, convicted and sentenced to 40 years in prison with 20 suspended. The driver will also be expected to serve 5 years of probation after he is released from prison.

The parents of the innocent victims were happy to see justice served, but the victory was bittersweet. The driver who fled the scene expressed great remorse for his actions. 

In a situation where loss occurs, it is hard to see past the pain. However, the families of the victims should consider speaking with an attorney to determine if there is any legal action that can be sought against the driver who fled the scene. Yes, the at-fault driver has received a criminal punishment, but that does not bar the family from seeking civil liability against the at-fault driver.
