Elderly Woman Charged With Hitting Pedestrian in Crosswalk

A 75 year-old woman in Elon, North Carolina has been charged in an accident that left an Elon University student in critical condition.

The police report stated that the woman has been charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, and failing to reduce speed.

The student sustained what were described as severe injuries and was taken to a local hospital. There was no sign that drugs or alcohol were involved.

We have seen the results of irresponsible drivers hitting pedestrians in crosswalks many times in our litigation work in Virginia. These accidents can cause terrible injuries to innocent people, and they deserve to be compensated for their injuries.

Our personal injury firm represented a student at a Virginia university who also was hit in a crosswalk by a distracted driver. In that case, our client was thrown into the air and knocked unconscious. The driver fled the accident scene.

Our client suffered terrible injuries to his face, including an orbital fracture on the right side. It caused him to incur major medical bills and he missed classes.

The next morning, the defendant took her car to a repair shop with a shattered windshield. The tech on duty was alert, and he called the police to report the unusual damages. Eventually, the at-fault driver was charged with hit and run. We settled that case for $67,000.
