Equipment Falling From Trailer Causes Multi-Vehicle Accident in West Virginia | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Sometimes a car or truck can cause an accident without ever touching another car. That was the case on I-79 near Exit 132 in Fairmont W Va on March 9, 2012.

According to WBOY, some drilling equipment fell onto the interstate because it was not properly secured to a trailer being towed by a pickup. A car struck the equipment, leading to a chain-reaction wreck that involved at least two other trucks. One passenger was taken to the hospital with injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck has reportedly been charged in connection with the accident and could most likely be held liable in a personal injury lawsuit because failing to secure the equipment caused the wreck. If the person was hauling the equipment for a particular company, the company might also be held partially responsible, especially if the driver was an employee and did not receive enough training on securing equipment properly or if the company did not provide the right tools to secure the equipment.

The injured passenger should contact an experienced West Virginia accident attorney to determine what claims he can file. If you or someone you know has been involved in a similar crash, read this free report  that provides essential information for trucking accident victims.
