Fairfax County, VA Jury Award $4.75 Million to Victim Injured in Fireworks Accident | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Kathryn Hollis suffered burns, shrapnel wounds and a traumatic brain injury in a major fireworks accident that propelled fireworks into a crowd, which included Mrs. Hollis. The explosion snapped one of her arms, set her hair on fire, and created 12 shrapnel wounds, according to the Sun Gazette.

The fireworks were a multi-shot “cakebox” design and exploded in the crowd during a 2007 Fourth of July fireworks show in Waters Field, VA. This terrible accident led to 13 people suffering serious injuries.

Mrs. Hollis, originally from Vienna, consulted with a lawyer and filed a personal injury claim. Fortunately, a jury in Fairfax County, Virginia (VA) realized how outrageous this fireworks accident was and appreciated the extent of Mrs. Hollis’ injuries. The jury awarded her $4.75 million.

We are glad to see the jury side with the victim in this awful fireworks accident injury case. Mrs. Hollis’ life may never be the same and she deserved compensation to cover her medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
