Fatal Accident on U.S. 58 in Suffolk | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

David Chavis was driving along in his pickup truck on U.S. 58 in Suffolk, Virginia (VA) when a Dodge Neon crossed the median and wound up colliding with his vehicle. The car crash was so severe that Mr. Chavis died at the scene, according to WAVY.com.

My deepest sympathies go out to Mr. Chavis’ friends and family. He was only 46 years old.

The details of the accident are still hazy. All we know at this point is that the driver of the Neon crossed the median, hit a guardrail, went air borne, and finally slammed into Mr. Chavis’ pickup truck.

The most pressing question has to be – what caused the driver of the Neon to cross the median? Were they distracted, intoxicated, or was there some type of mechanical issue? We have to wait and see what the official accident report states before we can determine a conclusion.

Sadly, fatal car wrecks are all too common in Virginia (VA).  In fact, a car wreck occurs every 3.89 minutes and two lives are lost every day in fatal car accidents, according to the DMV. In Suffolk, a total of 1,590 car crashes occurred in 2008 resulting in 17 deaths and 787 serious injuries.
