Fatal Car Accident on Bonney Road in Virginia Beach

Kenneth Shaw was driving his 2006 Ford Mustang convertible when he apparently lost control of the vehicle, veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a 2003 Dodge Ram on Bonney Road in Virginia Beach, Virginia (VA). Mr. Shaw died at the scene, according to The Virginian-Pilot. He was only 46 years old. My deepest condolences go out to Mr. Shaw's friends and family.

The details of this accident are very hazy so there are plenty of questions still unanswered. For example, what exactly caused Mr. Shaw to lose control of the vehicle? Did a part such as the accelerator or brake pedal malfunction? Did he suffer from a medical condition which debilitated them while operating the vehicle? We'll have to wait and see what the police report reveals.

Many serious car accidents have taken place in Virginia Beach. In 2008, there were 7,258 car crashes resulting in 31 deaths and 3,345 serious injuries in the city, according to the DMV.

The fatal crash occurred on the 4500 block of Bonney Road near South Independence Boulevard.  This area received a high volume of traffic since South Independence features ramps on-and-off of Interstate 264 (I-264) and is very close to Pembroke Mall. It presents major safety risks on most days due to the congestion. I'm surprised more vehicles weren't involved in this accident considering the number of cars that usually frequent this section of roadway.
