Fatal Head-On Collision on Interstate 64 in North Carolina (NC) | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

The morning commute in Albemarle County hit a tragic snarl today when a fatal four-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 64 eastbound at the 104 mile marker in Albemarle County, Virginia (VA).  The fatal accident blocked all eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 in Albemarle County for roughly four hours.   Police, fire and rescue personnel responded to the scene about three miles west of Crozet in Albemarle County. VSP investigators say four cars were involved in the crash, each with a driver and no passengers.   One person is confirmed dead and another was airlifted to the hospital

There is no news yet of what caused the accident as police are still investigating.  My condolences go out to the family of the driver who lost their life.  It is a devastating loss for any family to lose a loved one in this way.

What we do know is when one car hits another car, who hits another, you have a multi-car accident (also known as a chain reaction crash) and a major headache for you in determining liability and filing a claim with your insurance company.

We also know that at one point there was a head on collision, driver’s going the wrong way are more common than you might think, especially on highways. Drivers can confuse the off ramp for the on ramp when entering the highway and travel for long periods of time before they are able to correct themselves.
