Five-Car Crash on I-81 Hospitalizes Two, Closes Northbound Lanes | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What Happened:

A Chevrolet pickup truck that was towing a car trailer hydroplaned on I-81 northbound in Botetourt County, Virginia. The truck and trailer jackknifed, which blocked the right lane. This caused a tractor-trailer to smash into the pick up, and then two other tractor-trailers hit the first truck. Another tractor-trailer tried to avoid the crashes that were blocking the road, and ran off the side of the road and overturned after smashing into a guard rail.

Two drivers were injured and sent to the hospital. Undisclosed charges are pending at this time, according to WSET.

The Virginia Injury Lawyer’s Perspective:

There appears to have been no serious or life threatening injuries in this chain reaction traffic accident, for which we are thankful. Nonetheless, the drivers involved should consider speaking to a Virginia personal injury lawyer soon. Even though the criminal charges have not yet been disclosed, families could still seek financial restitution through a civil claim.
