Hampton, VA Woman Lost Life Due to Drunk Driver | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

There are some accidents that I read which make my blood boil. The recent pedestrian-car accident in Hampton, Virginia (VA) is a prime example. A woman hailing from Salem Street in Hampton, VA was hit and killed by a drunk driver near the corner of Nickerson and Andrews boulevards.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the woman who lost her life. This was a preventable accident and I am guessing her loved ones are struggling with a combination of grief and pure outrage at this incident. I know I would be livid if I lost a loved one due to an irresponsible and reckless driver.

The at-fault driver is charged with felony homicide and involuntary manslaughter related to driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the Virginian-Pilot.

Unfortunately, these types of accidents are far too common in VA. Approximately 365 lives were lost in 2008 due to alcohol related accidents, according to alcoholalert.com.

The tragic accident in Hampton adds to this disturbing statistic.
