Hanover County Bicycle Accident Leads to Loss of Life, Serious Head Injury | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Ronaldo Doolittle was riding his bike with his son when, all of sudden, his life came to a sudden, tragic end. He was hit and killed by a car in Hanover County, North Carolina (NC). Doolittle was only 47 years old.

If that wasn’t bad enough, his son was also hit and is currently in the hospital fighting for his life. The boy is in critical condition with a head injury, according to ncnews.org.

Reports indicate that the at-fault driver of the car was driving while under the influence and was in the possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. Despite the driver’s reckless behavior, he escaped the accident unharmed.

Wilmington, North Carolina, deputies stated that the at-fault driver and the Doolittles were traveling south on River Road when the car swerved into the bike lane, hitting the father and son.

My deepest sympathies go out to the Doolittle family. There are no words to properly express the pain and misery they must be going through right now.

I was so frustrated reading about this awful car-bike accident since I knew it probably could have been prevented if only the at-fault driver had been more responsible.

I hope the Doolittle family consults with a wrongful death attorney and considers filing a claim against the at-fault driver. There is no excuse to drive around under the influence of illegal substances and endangering the lives of fellow drivers, pedestrians, and bike riders.
