Hit-and-Run Accident on I-95 Leads to Loss of Life | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What Happened:

A driver pulled over onto the shoulder of I-95 North near Lorton, Virginia (VA). The driver was outside of his car when he was hit by an SUV. The victim died from his injuries.

The at-fault driver, rather than stopping to see what happened to the victim, decided to  flee the scene in what was likely a false hope of avoiding punishment.

The driver of the SUV was discovered and is now charged with a DUI with additional charges pending, according to Lorton Patch.

The Virginia Injury Lawyer’s Perspective:

Anytime an accident occurs, leaving the scene of the accident is not only morally reprehensible, but is also a crime. The victim’s family should contact a Virginia wrongful death lawyer to discuss their potential legal options. Since two crimes were committed – a hit and run and a DUI – the driver of the SUV could potentially be held legally responsible for the death of the victim in both civil and criminal courts.
