A hit-and-run collision in Cary, North Carolina (NC), left two bike riders badly injured and an SUV driver facing felony charges. The man currently in custody in a Wake County jail reportedly hit the bicyclists from behind on High House Road on the evening of October 17, 2016.
After running into a group of four cyclist between Maury Odell Place and Bond Park Drive, the driver took off with one of the bikes embedded in his vehicle’s windshield. Both of the injured cyclists remained hospitalized two days after the crash, and one of the victims was still listed in critical condition.
State Highway Patrol officials are handling the investigation into the hit-and-run collision. They have not released details on why the SUV driver failed to slow down or move over when approaching the bike riders. Nor has information emerged on why the at-fault driver fled the scene of the accident. One possibility is that the man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The man ran over a mailbox near his own home before parking and throwing the bicycle away.
The arrest of the man who hit and hurt them give the injured bike riders a chance to file and collect on personal injury insurance claims.
