Crashes involving school buses are far too common, and the number of those wrecks caused by drivers entrusted with the safety of schoolchildren is shocking. When a bus hits another vehicle or pedestrian and causes injuries to a driver, passengers or anyone else, the school and school district that employ the at-fault driver can be held liable for compensating victims for medical expenses and other losses.

Reports on the Hampton crash indicate the injuries to the car’s driver and elementary schoolchildren were minor. That is welcome news but probably does little to bolster parents’ confidence that their kids will always arrive at school and return home safely.
