Jeep Driver Dies After Merging Log Truck Cuts Him Off

Comments (0)

A negligent U-turn and merge from the shoulder of a rural highway led to the death of a Jeep driver on the afternoon of October 17, 2016. The fatal collision happened on Route 460 through Tazewell County, Virginia (VA).

The initial crash report released by the Virginia State Police indicates that the driver of a logging truck caused the deadly wreck. The truck driver reportedly made a legal U-turn and went into the shoulder. When he tried to enter the flow of traffic, he cut off the Jeep. The man in the smaller vehicle could not stop or change lanes in time to avoid the truck. He survived long enough to make it to a hospital, but he died quickly from his injuries.

The log truck operator now faces a charge of failing to yield right of way while merging onto a highway. The investigation into the crash continues, and more charges may be forthcoming.

Police charged the log truck operator with failing to yield right of way while merging onto a highway. The investigation into the commercial truck crash continues.

The family members of the deceased victim likely have strong grounds for filing wrongful death claim. If the truck lacked adequate safety equipment, the family could also file a claim against the company's insurance. Consulting with a knowledgeable and dedicated Virginia wrongful death attorney would help the victim's family members understand their legal rights and options.
