Man Killed in I-64 Accident | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Three men who were standing by their broken down Toyota pickup truck on Interstate 64 (I-64) were hit by a GMC Savana. One of the victims, a man named Ren Yang, lost his life due to his injuries two days later in a local hospital. The other two men were taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital. One remains in serious condition while the other was treated and released.

My deepest condolences go out to Mr. Yang’s family. It is never easy losing a loved one, but the pain is made even worse when the loss is sudden.

According to Herald Dispatch, the driver of the GMC Savana was not injured in the accident. Investigators released a preliminary report that states the uncertainty as to whether the men were in the roadway or on the shoulder of I-64 when the accident occurred.

If the investigation reveals that Mr. Yang and his colleagues were on the shoulder of the road tending to their vehicle, then Mr. Yang’s family and the other injured victims may have grounds to take legal action. Drivers must be aware of vehicles and pedestrians that are on the shoulder of the road and failing to do so could indicate liability on behalf of the driver who caused this tragic wreck.
