Man Struck by Car in Work Zone on I-64 in Norfolk, VA | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

How many times do we have to hear about pedestrians being hit by cars or trucks while in a work zone? It happened again April 25, 2012.

On I-64 in Norfolk, Virginia (VA), Riguel Dexter Durant suffered serious injuries when a car went between the cones marking a work zone. Durant was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, and the driver was charged with driving under the influence and arrested at the scene.

We hope the victim makes a speedy and complete recovery. According to authorities, not only was the work zone properly marked but a trooper with a marked car and emergency lights activated was at the scene before the accident. Blatant disregard of these signs that sent the driver into that work zone.

That was the second strike against him. The first was that he was behind the wheel at all. When are people going to learn that if they have been drinking they cannot get behind the wheel of any type of vehicle? Too many people are lost every day due to this one small act of negligence.

Our firm handles too many cases like this one that could have easily been prevented. Anyone injured by someone who is driving under the influence may want to contact an experienced Virginia personal injury lawyer. They would have the absolute right to financial recovery for things such as medical expenses, lost wages and emotional and physical suffering.
