What Happened:
A man named Douglas Schneiderman, a resident of McLean, Virginia (VA) was killed in a head-on car-truck accident in East Hampton, New York (NY). Reports indicate that a pickup truck crossed into the oncoming lane of Route 114 and collided with Mr. Schneiderman’s vehicle, according to nbcnewyork.com.
Mr. Schneiderman died at the scene of the wreck. His wife and 16-year-old daughter suffered serious injuries and had to be transported to Southampton Hospital for treatment.
Our deepest condolences go out to the Schneiderman family. It’s disturbing to realize that, in the blink of an eye, this family had their lives turned upside down. Not only was a life lost, but both Mrs. Schneiderman and their teenage daughter have suffered serious, potentially life-altering injuries.
Police continue to investigate the wreck so we do not know, as of the date of this posting, what caused the pickup truck driver to suddenly veer into oncoming traffic.
The Virginia Injury Lawyer’s Perspective:
The Schneiderman family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim against the pickup truck driver. Though, the grounds of the claim largely depends on the cause of the pickup truck driver’s actions. If the driver was distracted, intoxicated or fell asleep then the family probably has grounds to seek restitution through a civil claim. If there was a mechanical issue, the family may still be able to pursue a claim, but the suit may need to include the manufacturer of the vehicle.
