NC Car Wreck Shuts Down Highway | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

When traveling our nation’s roadways, it’s always important to look carefully at traffic signs, signals, and directions. If you do, you may be able to prevent a crash like this one.

Both eastbound lanes of Interstate 26 near Weaverville, North Carolina (NC), were shut down on Wednesday, January 19th, 2011, due to a wrong way accident.

The crash happened near the Jupiter-Barnardsville exit because of a single vehicle going against the flow of traffic on the highway. Two people were taken to Mission Hospital as a result-the vehicles involved had Tennessee and Virginia license tags.

The N.C. Highway Patrol reopened the lanes at approximately 8:40 p.m. that evening, an hour after the accident occurred.

If you are driving in an unfamiliar area, look at maps or use a GPS to determine which way to go before you start out. Wrong way accidents are entirely avoidable if you think and plan ahead.
