North Carolina (NC) Man Dies in Truck Hit-and-Run
The Thomasville victim was thought to be going out to collect his mail on Wednesday, January 2, 2011, when he was found lying dead on the road at approximately 1:40 pm. Investigators believe that a truck may have been involved, striking the victim before fleeing the scene.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is currently investigating the accident, although it is reported to be a difficult case. The scene contains little evidence, and at present, no witnesses have been found. Burton Road was closed for several hours while police continued their investigation.
Our hearts go out to the family of the elderly victim, who may have been doing nothing more than trying to retrieve his mail on a cold winter's day. We are sorry he had to be taken from his loved ones in this manner.
Whenever you are driving a truck, or any vehicle, remain alert to distractions around you. It is always the driver's responsibility to maintain a safe speed, one that will allow them to stop in time if an obstacle is encountered in the road.
