A middle school bus collided with three other cars in Swansboro on the morning of February 10th, 2011. The accident happened at the intersection of North Carolina (NC) 24 and Queens Creek Road, and involved Bus # 36, which was transporting 33 students at the time. The bus rear-ended three other cars.
According to Swansboro Police Chief Ed Parrish, two people in the cars involved were taken to area hospitals for medical treatment, but there were no reports of student injuries. Two students, however, were taken home by their parents for evaluation.
The condition of the hospitalized victims is unknown at this time; the incident remains under investigation. According to Onslow County Schools spokesman Barry Collins, road conditions were not a factor in the accident. The bus driver has been charged with failing to reduce speed.
Maintaining a safe distance between yourself and the vehicles in front you is an important responsibility-try to keep at least one car length for every ten miles of speed that you are driving.
