Neglect May Have Been Primary Factor in Death of Infant at Norfolk, VA Day Care Center | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A 7-week old child died in a windowless supply closet inside Little Eagles Day Care in Norfolk, Virginia (VA). The day care center, now closed, was affiliated with the Bethel Temple Church of Deliverance, on East Little Creek Road.

The infant died because he was reportedly allowed to sleep on his stomach and was left unsupervised for more than two hours, according to The Virginian Pilot.

After the death of the infant, state inspectors found several violations including a failure to comply with state requirements that three employees trained in first aid and CPR be present at all times. The day care center featured one worker for every 10 babies which is less than the required ratio of one worker for every four babies.

One of the day care workers cited in this wrongful death action ran another day care from her home. She was cited by state inspectors for failing to properly supervise infants and having unsafe conditions.

Our hearts go out to the family of the infant. This is a heartbreaking tragedy and words cannot properly express the pain the family is going through.
