Passenger and Driver Killed When Car Loses Control | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Two people, the driver and a passenger, were killed when their car crashed into a bridge Sunday morning in Surry County Virginia (VA), reports the State Police.  Two other passengers were flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries and are expected to survive.

The driver lost control at about 4:42 a.m., police said. She overcorrected and ran off the right side of the road, hitting a bridge south of Rolfe Highway.  There is no information yet about suspicion of intoxication.

My condolences go out to the family of those two killed. The passenger was only 19 years old, far too young to die.

Many people don’t know that when a loved one riding in a vehicle is killed due to the negligence and/or irresponsibility of the driver, the family of the loved one could have grounds for a wrongful death claim. Families sometimes decide not to file a claim.  This is a mistake because the claim is made against the negligent driver’s insurance policy, even if the driver has passed away.
