Passenger Seriously Injured in Road Accident as Driver Falls Asleep | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

The Danger of Falling Asleep at the Wheel

A van carrying three people was traveling down Route 29 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia (VA) when the driver of the van fell asleep and wound up causing a serious accident. The driver of the van reportedly over-corrected causing the van to veer off the road and roll multiple times, according to wset.com.

A passenger in the van suffered serious injuries and had to be transported to Lynchburg General Hospital.

Let’s hope the passenger pulls through so they can begin picking up the pieces of their life after this awful accident.

This wreck is a prime example of how important it is not to drive while feeling drowsy. Unfortunately, many people throw caution to the wind and try to “power through” despite feeling exhausted. The U. S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that drowsy driving is the cause of more than 100,000 wrecks each and every year in the U.S. The consequences of these 100,000 wrecks include roughly 40,000 injuries and 1,550 lives lost.

The drowsy driver of the van who caused the wreck on Route 29 has been charged with reckless driving.
