Passengers Critically Injured in Franklin, VA Rollover Crash | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

An altercation, distraction and excessive speed appear to have combined to cause a driver in Franklin, Virginia (VA), to lose control of his car on Armory Drive, hit a curb and flip. The rollover accident caused the man behind the wheel and a female passenger to eject from the vehicle. A second passenger remained in the car, which according to a police report turned over several times before coming to a stop in a Farm Fresh parking lot.

Police also told WAVY-TV 10 that the at-fault drive had gotten into a fight with one or more people at a nearby Walmart, then sped away from the discount store. Specific details of the argument and what happened inside the car during its brief, ill-fated trip are not know at this time. Officials continue to investigate.

What is known is that both passengers and the driver sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash. All were flown by helicopter to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in critical condition.

Regardless of the investigation results, the accident illustrates the dangers to passengers when a driver is speeding and has his or her mind focused on anything other than controlling the car or truck. As Virginia personal injury attorneys, we know that distractions ranging from talking on a cell phone to fuming over an unpleasant experience put everyone in a vehicle, as well as everyone else on the road, at risk for being hurt or killed.
