What Happened:

North Carolina State Troopers say that two vehicles were racing before a wreck that killed a 2-year-old boy over the weekend on I-77.

Police have said that the toddler was in a car seat in one of the two vehicles racing down the interstate. The cars were racing shortly before 1 a.m. when the crash happened between Remount Road and West Boulevard exists on I-77.

Authorities say that one of the cars struck a guardrail before both eventually crashed into the median and came to a stop. The driver and another adult passenger that were in the same vehicle as the child were injured in the crash. Both were in serious condition at a local hospital. The driver of the other vehicle was ejected during the crash meaning that a total of three people were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Authorities have not made any announcements about charges, but are saying that they suspect alcohol is involved.
