What Happened

On March 29, 2013 Virginia State Police arrested a man in connection with a fatal auto accident in Midlothian, Virginia (VA). The accident took place after state troopers attempted to pull over the driver for an equipment violation. The driver sped off and was able to evade the troopers. The troopers spotted the man’s SUV just before the toll booth at the Midlothian Turnpike exit. The driver ran a red light at the intersection of Midlothian Turnpike and Moorefield Park Drive, sideswiped two vehicles and collided with an Infiniti sedan in the intersection. The at-fault driver fled the scene of the accident on foot and unsuccessfully attempted to carjack a woman’s vehicle at a nearby business. Police were able to apprehend the 23-year-old man and he now faces fifteen charges, including felony and misdemeanor eluding police, obstruction of justice, attempted carjacking, two counts of maiming another while driving under the influence, felony hit and run, two counts misdemeanor hit and run, D.U.I., refusal to give a blood or breath test, driving while suspended, disregarding a traffic light, defective equipment and failure to wear a safety belt.

The 73-year-old driver of the Infiniti was transported to VCU Medical Center with serious injuries, but would later die from his injuries.

The Virginia Personal Injury Lawyers’ Perspective

Following a tragic loss of a loved one, few people think about talking to a lawyer. However we highly recommend they should contact a Virginia (VA) wrongful death lawyer. An experienced Virginia (VA) wrongful death lawyer can help families through the grief while beginning the legal process. This will help protect evidence and preserve the rights of your loved one. Taking civil action on behalf of a loved one may lead to monetary compensation for your loss. We fully understand that no amount of money can replace a loved one, but pursuing restitution may allow for those left behind to not become burdened financially. The series of events that led up to this accident may constitute gross negligence, which may support a punitive damage claim. A private consultation will allow the family to receive an analysis of their legal rights.
