Safe Driving by Teens Fostered by Efforts of Virginia Beach Police Officer | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Teenage drivers have more than their share of car and pickup accidents. Too often, vehicles with inexperienced teens behind the wheel end up in accidents that cause serious accidents and, sadly, deaths.

One local high school resource officer, Robyn Watson of the Virginia Beach Police Department, has spent the past two years doing all she can to help the students she works with every day learn and practice safe driving skills. On December 7, 2010, Watson received recognition from Drive Safe Hampton Roads for establishing a Partners For Safe Teen Driving club at Green Run High School, using Facebook and other social media to provide information to teens, educating students about the dangers of drinking and driving, and launching a campaign against texting and driving.

As the above video explains, Watson began focusing on safe teen driving after three Green Run students died in a car accident on their way home from school in 2008. Helping young drivers stay out of crashes needs to be the focus of driving education and safety messages shared with teens. I join with the members of Drive Safe in applauding Officer Watson for her work.
