School Bus Accident at Intersection of South Independence Boulevard and Holland Road Results in Loss of Life | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A school bus was traveling down Holland Road toward the intersection of South Independence Boulevard in Virginia Beach when the bus crashed into the back of a disabled Ford Escort. The Escort was stopped in the northbound lane of Holland Road. To make matters worse, the bus wound up hitting Christian Raul Montes, the driver of the Escort (named in the The Daily Press). Mr. Montes was standing outside his car.

Mr. Montes, a resident of the 3500 block of Campion Avenue in Virginia Beach, died at the scene of the accident. Mr. Montes was in the Navy, married and had two children, according to wtkr.com. He was only 27 years old.

Our deepest condolences go out to the Montes family. Losing a loved one is always difficult, but the pain is made even worse when your loved one is taken from you in a sudden and unexpected manner.

Below is a news report on this terrible accident:

The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office is reviewing the accident to determine if legal charges should be brought against the bus driver. One of the students on the bus told reporters that they felt the driver suddenly slam on the brakes when the collision occurred. Another student, who sat in the second seat on the school bus, said that Mr. Montes “was just out of his car – and the bus driver just didn’t see him. He was yelling stop, stop – and by the time the bus driver saw the guy, it was too late,” according to the wtkr.com article.
