School Bus Crash in North Carolina Sends 10 Elementary School Students to the Hospital | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Students are recovering after a school bus overturned in Millers Creek, North Carolina (NC). The crash occurred on Green Acres Road at around 3:30 pm on May 1, 2012, when 12 elementary school students were heading home.
The bus driver lost control of the bus while speeding and ran off the side of the road. When the 74 year old tried to correct her mistake, she went too far and hit an embankment, which caused the bus to flip. The bus driver and the injured children were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Nine of the students were released that same evening, but one remained under observation. The bus driver has been ticketed for exceeding the posted speed limit. Though the driver had been in her job for over 23 years, this accident shows that even the most expert drivers can make simple mistakes that put the lives of others at risk.

School buses are designed to be among the safest vehicles on the road. Still, no safety features can provide complete protection against human error. When parents entrust bus drivers with their little ones, there is an agreement that the driver will follow all traffic laws. Speed is a major determining factor in the deadliest of crashes, and one has to wonder if this crash would have occurred if the driver had slowed down.

If you or a loved one has been injured in an accident, consider consulting with a North Carolina injury attorney.
