School Bus Driver at Fault for Accident | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Police are blaming a school bus driver’s lack of paying attention as the cause of an accident which occurred in Indian Trail, N.C. Two dozen people were injured in the accident, including 21 students.

According to the accident report, the school bus driver was transporting 32 students to Piedmont Middle and High School, in Monroe at approximately 8:00 a.m. The school bus was traveling north on Unionville Indian Trail Road near Ridge Road. As the driver came to a curve in the road, she drove onto the northbound shoulder, then overcorrected and crossed to the left of the center line. That maneuver caused the bus to overturn, landing on top of Toyota minivan, which had been traveling southbound.

The driver of the van, a woman from Indian Trail, was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center, suffering from broken bones and other injuries. The woman’s two year old was also transported to the hospital with injuries.

The school bus driver and 20 of the students were transported to CMC-Union in Monroe, all suffering from various injuries. A police spokesperson said the school bus driver had been working for the district since September, and that charges against the driver are pending.
