School Bus Rollover Accident in Chesapeake Leaves Multiple Children Injured | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Bus 644 was merging from Gruen Street onto Jarvis Road in Chesapeake, Virginia (VA) when the driver exclaimed, “Oh Shoot!” That is when the nightmare began.

The bus ran off the shoulder of the road and flipped on its side. The children on the bus were flung from one end to the other. This resulted in a dozen children transported to the emergency room with some complaining of serious joint injuries, according to the Virginian Pilot.

Here is a news report on the bus accident:

The exact cause of the bus rollover accident is still unknown. Police determined there was nothing wrong with the brakes or steering system. Was the bus driver speeding? Were they distracted? We will have to wait and see what the police investigation reveals.

We do know that close to 12,000 children are injured and six children lose their lives in school bus wrecks every year, according to stnonline.com.

Regardless of the cause of the Chesapeake bus rollover wreck, we are lucky no child was killed in the accident. A bus flipping over is one of the worst kinds of accidents and the situation could have been far worse.
