Seven-Year-Old Boy Loses Leg in Tragic Truck vs. Bike Accident | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What Happened:

According to the Denver Post, witnesses saw a speeding truck barely stop at a stop sign in a subdivision in Westminster, CO. The truck struck a seven-year-old boy who was riding his tricycle and dragged him for nearly 50 feet before he stopped. This tragic bicycle accident broke both of the little boy’s legs, one of which could not be saved by doctors. As of October 17, 2012, the decision was made to amputate part of one leg. The driver of the truck that caused the accident has been charged with careless driving and causing bodily injury.

The Virginia Injury Lawyer’s Perspective:

Accidents like this one are horrible reminders of how fast one’s life can be changed by one person’s bad decision. This young child and his family have a long, painful road to recovery ahead of them because the truck driver did not stop long enough to confirm the street was clear. Our hearts go out to this family and others like them who have suffered from the amputation of a limb. The emotional and financial burden of this type of injury can be overwhelming.
