When you walk in a parking lot, you probably don’t expect to suffer a serious injury or lose your life in a wreck. Unfortunately, that is exactly what occurred in a Walmart parking lot in Smithfield, North Carolina (NC). Three women were hit by a pickup truck. One of the victims was killed, and two were injured, according to WRAL.com.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the victims, especially to the family of the victim who was killed. Losing a loved one is of the most difficult experiences any person has to struggle with, but the pain is made even worse when the loved one is taken from you in a sudden, preventable accident.
No charges have been filed against the at-fault driver at this point, but that may change when the accident investigation is complete. Investigators are trying to determine if the at-fault driver was negligent or if there was an equipment problem with his truck.
Marianne Rapp, a witness to this tragic NC accident, told reporters, “When there are throngs of people coming out of Walmart, you have to be very cognizant of what’s going on around you or you’re going to hit somebody,” according to the WRAL news report.
