My colleague John C. recently posted an article describing some of the birth defects that can result from a mother taking certain antidepressant medications while pregnant. Unfortunately, most expectant mothers are unaware of the nonpharmacologic options they have to treat their depression. This is a serious problem, considering 1 in 10 pregnant women will suffer from depression during their pregnancy or the postpartum period.
