Tassimo Single-Cup Coffeemaker Recalled After 10-Year-Old Burned, Hospitalized | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A defect that puts adults and children for suffering serious burns has led to the recall of more than 1.7 million  Tassimo single-cup coffee brewers in the United States and Canada. An incident that prompted the recall involved a 10-year-old girl from Minnesota (MN) who was helping her grandmother make a cup of coffee when the Tassimo machine spewed hot coffee grounds onto the girl’s neck and face, causing second-degree burns.

In all, officials have received 140 reports of the Tassimo coffeemakers that use plastic T-discs filled with coffee or tea spraying hot liquid, coffee grounds and tea leaves onto adults and children. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, 37 second-degree burns have been caused by the defective coffeemakers.

Brewers sold with the brand names Bosch and Tassimo Professional are being recalled. Anyone with those machines should check for model numbers TAS100, TAS200, TAS451, TAS46, TAS651 or TAS6512CUL  and stop using the machines with those markings.
