Teen Passenger Killed in Charles City County, VA Car Wreck | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A parent’s worst nightmare may well be getting a call from police telling them that their child has been injured or killed. Sadly, the parent’s of a 17-year old Virginia Beach, VA, boy received that call in early December 2011 and will be mourning instead of celebrating during the holiday season.

The teen was killed when the driver of the car he was riding in refused to stop for a Charles City County deputy. Instead of pulling over, the driver led the deputy on a high-speed chase and eventually crashed his Audi. Police say charges of reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol are pending gainst the driver.

It is always a tragedy when a passenger is injured or killed in a car accident, especially one as reckless and negligent as this one. It’s frustrating to know that the passenger was helpless and at the mercy of the driver during the whole ordeal. The family of someone who was killed in an accident faces many costs and challenges, including the following:

  • Funeral expenses and burial expenses.
  • Medical bills accumulated after the accident but before death.
  • Loss of support.
  • Loss of future income.

The point is that many families are so devastated and left so vulnerable that they just want to get the process over as quickly as possible. It is a mistake and a disservice to a loved one, however, not to pursue a valid wrongful death claim.

As a parent or guardian, being prepared to handle a situation suc as the one the Virginia Beach family now finds itself in will help ensure that you and your family receive proper compensation. To make this easier we have created a free Virginia (VA) wrongful death guide to help you.
