Teenage Passenger Killed in Accident in Henrico County | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Police attempted to stop a car that was being driven erratically by the driver. Rather than obey the law and pull over, the driver made the reckless decision to flee police. Sadly, this is when the chaos ensued.

The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road and wound up in the Chickahominy River in Henrico County, Virginia (VA). If that wasn’t bad enough, a 15-year-old passenger in the vehicle wound up losing her life.

The victim, Amanda Irby of Sandston (named in newsplex.com article, 02-06-14) was pronounced dead at VCU Medical Center. Another passenger remains in critical condition receiving treatment at the hospital.

Our deepest condolences go out to the Irby family. Having a loved one taken from you is never easy, but it’s especially heartbreaking when the victim is so young and had their whole life ahead of them. It also has to be infuriating to know that this awful incident probably could have been avoided, if only the driver of the vehicle exercised more caution and did not attempt to evade police.

Henrico County police charged the driver with felony eluding, second-offense driving on a suspended license, and providing false information to a law enforcement officer.
